February 09, 2012

Last week our residents and guests enjoyed a visit from the new Bethlehem Town Supervisor, John Clarkson.  Clarkson told residents and guests of his professional background and how he came to run for the position of Town Supervisor as well as some more personal stories including how he met his wife and about his children.  Attendees also had the chance to ask Clarkson questions, including ones about the new Vista Tech Park and school funding.  The attendees were able to meet with Clarkson one on one as well during an informal reception that followed.  Delmar Place residents are still active members of the community who enjoy being aware of the things that matter in the place that they call home.

Grandparent Program Continues to Bring Smiles to All Ages!

Delmar Place News

November 29, 2011

For the past two years, residents of Delmar Place have visited the Glenmont Elementary School as part of a “Grandparent” program.  It started as a bridge between the ages when the school was studying about swing dancing.  They were looking to bring the lessons on dance to life by inviting men and women to the school who had actually danced the moves and lived the music.  Delmar Place residents were eager to share their memories and had a grand time at a real Swing Party at the school to finish out the year.  The relationship has continued fostered by the teachers at Glenmont Elementary School and Activities Director, Kassi Neal.  Residents visit once a month and are assigned to their own special classroom of children.  There they share stories, do projects and crafts or play games with the kids.  In turn, the children share their smiles, energy and hand-made cards and books with the residents.  Smiles abound on visiting day and for many days afterward.  Both the children and the residents love it!  The program has done so much for both age groups:  the kids have learned to interact, communicate and appreciate the older generation (some of the kids may not have grandparents of their own), and the seniors gain so much joy from being around the young people, sharing their memories and simply having youthful fun.  “Its my favorite day of the month” states one resident participant with a smile!  What could be better?

Location, Location, Location!

Delmar Place News

November 17, 2011

This Real Estate catch phrase is not only important when choosing a home to buy, it is also an important feature when choosing an Assisted Living Community.  So many assisted living and senior communities are tucked away in remote locations that, although may provide a beautiful setting, limit the resident’s access to local community events and resources.  Delmar Place benefits from a “community center” location.  Situated on Delaware Avenue in the heart of the hamlet of Delmar, the park-like property is a perfect location for seniors who want to remain connected.  Not only does the community have the benefit of lovely grounds and walking paths, Delmar Place is just a short distance from the many treasures that make Delmar a great place to live.  The Bethlehem Public Library is situated just next door and connects to the grounds with a paved path that is easy to navigate.  Countless residents enjoy the Library’s quiet ambiance, interesting programs, accessible information and books on a daily basis.  The Bethlehem YMCA is just a short drive (less than 2 miles) toward the Helderberg Mountains offering great exercise, aquatic and social programs for seniors to supplement the regular community Activity schedule.  In the opposite direction, the Delmar “Four-Corners” is home to shops, grocery, restaurants, banks and the post office.   All are accessible by side-walk, a short drive in a car or on the Delmar Place van.  If you’re looking to simplify your life and are in need of a little assistance, but still want to remain active in the community, then Delmar Place is ready to welcome you home!  Who could want more?

November 11th was more than just a monumental day of repetative numbers (11/11/11), it was a special day to say thank you to the men and women who have served and who continue to serve in our Armed Forces.  Residents were able to make a trip to the Delmar Veterans Park to pay tribute.  A special “Thank you” is due to our own Resident Veterans who are our very own everyday heros!  Thank you to the brave men and women who protect our rights, freedoms and everyday way of life.  We are grateful always for your service.
